Hello to you all, just wanted to ask if any of you play the piano and such. do you have a keyboard but wish to own an acoustic piano but you cannot have one because of an expense issue or is the space too much? Please post your comments here.
hello, I do play the piano and have one. I'm not that fond of a keyboard, smiles don't know why.
I preffer keyboards myself. I think it's because of the variety of instruments that you can play.
I have a wooden piano, and a few different keyboards and modules. I prefer the wooden piano for straight piano music, but in the studio, give me my electronics.
I love the keyboard. Like James said, all the types of instruments that you could choose from. I use to have a Casio keyboard, but no longer have it. I'd like to get a better keyboard like one of those Yamahas. Love those.
i'd love to own a new Rhodes mark 7 Piano. Unfortunately it's not in my price range yet.
My parents got a digital piano after I kept harping on the subject for so long about three years ago. I do play, but do not take lessons formally, as the teacher I had at the time said she was not sure where to begin. I was so advanced we just sat there playing around with diferent pieces of music. lol I was told it's possible to hook a digital piano up to a computer and record things, but I need to learn more about audio production before I can even think of doing that. well, that, and move out of this house because there's no way in hell that piano's going to fit in this room. lol
heh don't know where to begin? know any of the jazz voicings? quartal harmonies? Chopin's preludes, fuges and the like? maybe even etudes! lol, there is never a shortage when it comes to piano literature. To hook and record I'd suggest you use midi. There are wires you can use that are a bit below 30 bucks. You can adapt those and learn how to use any accessible sequencer like quick windows sequencer. Then you can record and play to your heart's content. More advanced tools (such as the project mix that I use) are small audio consoles and in combination with the awesome j sonar scripts for cakewalk sonar can take any audio input from your keyboard if you even wanted. Other optoins for better sounds than thoose from the keyboard are the use of soundfonts or softsynths and later export all of that to audio. Sequencing is not too hard really, you just have to learn; I am glad that there is extensive documentation with most programs. As for myself, I own both a yamaha psr 2100 (awesome keyboard for now) and a yamaha YGPX 625, really featured digital piano. You still get instruments and get the advantage of the headphones when playing plus you can now use a thum drive with it. The best feature however is that you get the lovely key weight. i would have actually bought a piano but the disadvantages are: (1) tuning: You have to maintain tuning for a repeated period, (say 1 to 3 years) and it gets expensive and takes quite a long time to do. (2) proper voicing: When humidity is present, the hammers will have to get re-voiced. Additionally, wood deteriorates over time. (3) portability: Yes, I really love the sound and all, and wouldn't mind at all playing in an acoustic or a keyboard but gigs get you. I'd play piano for most kinds of music so long as i know how to play the style. I love taking the midi songs on the net and being the pianist of those songs myself. Playing pretty much any style, it really gets fun.
Well, I was a piano major in college, but play more synthesizer now than anything else. My preference is a real piano for the warmpth of the sound. If there's a power failure, you can still play. From a practical standpoint, the synth is the way to go. You can either download sounds or update modules or get new software engines if you like in the case of midi and computer control. Its also a bit difficult to put a grand piano in the back of a van, too. *smile*.

Yeah, I've been playing myself since I was two. I started out with this little Cassio keyboard belonging to my Grandparents, then when I was five, I got this huge 6/7-octave keyboard, huge chunky great thing which lived on our dining room table for around 6 years till we moved house, then mum set it up here in my room, about where I'm sitting now, on its stand which we'd never used up to then, then I got a smaller keyboard with more demos, rhythems and instruments on there so I could take one to School or College with me, then 6 years after that smaller keyboard, Christmas morning 1999, I finally, got a £2000/$4000 Yamaha digital/acoustic piano. That instrument is, or rather would be, my life, if only I hadn't had to go away to School and college. It takes up a surprisingly small amount of room by our dining room door downstairs, so now I'm home, I'm hopefully going to get a piano tutor and take perhaps my grade 4 piano exam and then perhaps grade 5, 6, 7, 8 Etc. I'm really going to make something of it now.

If the piano is well tuned and with a correct voicing, off course it's an acooustic grand piano for me. Steinway D it's the best piano in the world for me. At home I have a Yahama C5 and it's really enough for the work of everyday.
gotta love them baby grands. on our second cd I used it a lot. I play keybords and piano, love them both. None of you may know this, acept for a few people, but when I was around 12 years old I actually got the honer to meat the killer, jerry lee louis, himself, and was called the little killer by him. i've stuck with that for years and i've never stopt playing. i've got a yamaha keyboard but would give anything for a moteef. in the band I have a roland.
Wow, now that I'm finished reading, I do have to say, interesting oppinions from all of you! I had a Casio keyboard, but a few months ago, I purchased myself a Yamaha PSRE-413 keyboard. I would love to own an acoustic piano but, I don't have the room. Grandma said she dcould give me hers, but it's way out of tune! Well, it's more like a half-step lower and the sustain pedal is way down, it's just plainly unool. Anyway, I've rambled enough, but that's simply my say on things. As for MIDI and such, I've no idea what to do, but I do currently use a patch chord and gold Wave or Cdex to record.
Hey guys! I love singing and playing the piano and have both a Yamaha upright piano and a crappy Casio keyboard. Lol. I have videos of me playing and singing on youtube where I'm playing the Yamaha piano mostly. But I did do one on my Casio, I think. Please feel free to take a listen and tell me what you think! I'll probably put up some new songs this week.

Its always interesting to me when a topic gets resurected like this one has been. My wife's family surprised me with a real piano about ten days ago. I was shopping for a friend of theirs was the story I was told. It meant re-arranging the furniture in our living room, but it is so nice to have a real piano in the house again. I sold it to buy my first really good synth over 20 years ago, and never thought about replacing it. I still stand by what I said about the advantages of electronics nearly two years ago. Still love the warmpth of a real instrument, though.

Check out the Kawai digital pianos. They are a good balance between digital and acoustic. The action is real wood,k and is balanced like a grand, too. The voice is great, too, and you can revoice it, tune it, set the temprament, and everything!
I have a keyboard but would love to own an acoustic piano. In my opinion they're far superior to the electronic variety of pianos.
